Both Sides Now

This week a participant in one of my classes wore a sweater with “BADASS” embroidered on it.

I enthusiastically shared “I love your sweater”... she covered it with her hand, a little embarrassed  – I thought, wear it LOUD and PROUD sister!

If you’ve been reading these newsletters, or are one of my clients, that won’t surprise you.

I believe being strong, and maintaining a high level of integrity (AKA commitment to your core values), is foundational to spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

Because life is fraught with dualities, the necessary flip side of badass-ness is self compassion, surrender, and rest.

In Women Who Run With the Wolves, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, writes about two kinds of strength “the strength of the muscles, and the invincible strength of the soul.”

Estes shares, “The body is considered a sensor, and informational network, a messenger with myriad communication systems – cardiovascular, respiratory, skeletal, autonomic, as well as emotive and intuitive. The body is a powerful vehicle, a spirit who lives with us, a prayer of life in its own right. THE BODY IS A MULTILINGUAL BEING.”

On the journey to personal transformation/excellence/growth, it's imperative to cultivate self discipline AND, self kindness.

Something I often say when I teach strength classes is, “challenge yourself, AND take care of yourself”...

This is true for any pursuit….whether you’re currently birthing a book, stepping into a stronger physical version of yourself, or redefining your nutrition standards – listen to your body’s unique soul language, inhabit your CORE, and befriend your inner badass.

 ZERO apologies.
